The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) is now intensifying its efforts to promote gambling awareness in the Keystone State in a bid to protect its residents from gambling-related harm. By declaring March as the Problem Gambling Awareness Month, the state gaming regulator hopes to clean up its gambling industry and make it safer for both the operators and the customers.
Throughout the month of March, the gambling regulator will be educating Pennsylvanians on problem gambling. In addition to that, it will be offering treatment services to people who have gambling problems. This does not mean that such initiatives were non-existent in the past. March will just be all about making people even more aware that there is help for gambling-related harm available for them in case they ever need it.
“Our agency has made outreach for individuals with gambling disorders a priority since the opening of the first casinos in Pennsylvania over 13 years ago—as new forms of gaming were rolled out over the past year, the PGCB made sure that new tools and resources, including online self-imposed limits and responsible gambling pages, are available through each iGaming site to assist individuals in gambling responsibility.”

The main highlights of the Problem Gambling Awareness Month will be a series of events that kicked off on March 3. These events will run all the way up to March 25 with a few conferences slotted in between.
Gracing these events will be several officials from the gaming control board’s Office of Compulsive and Problem Gambling as well as staff members from other regulatory entities in the state. These include the Council on Compulsive and Problem Gambling, the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs and the Pennsylvania Lottery.
The New Problem Gambling Website
As part of its bid to raise awareness and make the gambling industry much safe for the gamblers, the PGCB has also recently unveiled an updated and user-friendly website. The revamped website offers vital information on how to identify signs of gambling problems in addition to highlighting treatment options that are available in the state.

Needless to say, Pennsylvania is one of the most lucrative gambling markets in the United States. The state’s gambling industry continues to grow rapidly, something that can be partly attributed to its large population. That said, cases of gambling-related harm are always likely to crop up. As such, the need for better responsible gambling mechanisms and treatment services continues to grow. Thankfully, the PGCB and other Pennsylvanian regulatory bodies are pursuing such initiatives very aggressively.
